The Franklin Square Community came together on March 31, at Washington Street School, to fight pediatric cancers. More than 150 district students, teachers and parents shaved their heads to raise money for The St. Baldrick's Foundation, a national organization dedicated to funding children’s cancer research. More than 100 local residents cycled through The Shop in Elmont on Dec. 12 for "Haircuts for Elmont Firefighter Richard Schriefer," a fundraiser for a Franklin Square resident and ex-chief of the Elmont Fire Department. Hundreds of dollars were raised during the event for Schriefer, 37, who has been battling brain cancer since it was diagnosed in July. more
