The North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League Giants captured the 2011 boys’ 10- and 11-year-old International Division Championship by besting the Cardinals 9-8 on June 18 at the Gunther Elementary School field. When Bellmore and Merrick residents awoke on Wednesday morning, they found –– much to their relief –– that, no, they had not been pounded by another blizzard. Instead, an overnight storm blanketed the community with three to five inches of fresh powder. more

From the time that we are children, we are told to be ourselves –– to be unique. Students show their unique natures daily. How they dress, how they act and how they learn are all different. But there is one part of school where most students do not try to be themselves: their schedule. Why does this happen? Students constantly ask their guidance counselors the question, “What looks good for college?” instead of the asking themselves the obvious question, “What do I actually enjoy?” more

The 12-year-old Merrick-North Merrick Little League’s Williamsport Tournament travel team played Bellmore on July 2 and came away with a 4-2 victory in District 31. more
