More than 300 Kennedy High School graduates spanning five decades gathered on Oct. 21 at Mulcahey’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh for a night of drinks, music and fundraising, while catching up with old friends. The multi-class reunion was the kickoff event for the newly formed Kennedy Alumni Association. more

The Kennedy High School girls’ soccer team came together on Sept. 17 in support of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. After an early-morning practice, all 23 players met at Salon Envy in Merrick and purchased Streaks of Sunshine hair extensions, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. The extensions are $10 each. more

Part three in a series on Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District students of the arts. Bellmorite Jamie Landau studied cupcakes while at Kennedy High School, from which the 17-year-old graduated with honors on Sunday. Landau, who will attend the College of William & Mary in Virginia in the fall, explored the shape and texture of cupcakes. She looked for nuances in the folds and swirls of their frosted tops. She even took a job at New York Cupcakery in Bellmore, in part to familiarize herself with their every detail. more
Those who know Scott Lipsky say he is a man of few words. Lipsky, who grew up in Merrick and graduated from Kennedy High School in Bellmore, has never been one to boast or complain. And that, in large part, was the secret to the 29-year-old’s success at last week’s French Open, at which he won the mixed doubles title at this Grand Slam event. more

Kennedy High School junior Ross Shulman returned to the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education meeting last Wednesday to make his case that the district should eliminate substitute-teachers to save money and preserve full-time teaching positions. Instead of substitutes, Shulman advocated for a plan to use empty general-purpose rooms and cafeterias to house students under the direction of aides when their teachers are absent. more
