Forty Merrick-area coaches recently took part in the Merrick Police Activity League’s inaugural NSCAA/LIJSL State C License Class, which certifies coaches after the three-week course and two exams. Bobby Cirigliano of North Bellmore lived for six months and three days. He died Sept. 15, 2004, when his head was caught in between the dropside rail and the mattress of his crib, and he suffocated. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. He never returned home. more
The Nassau County Legislature is on the verge of repealing the controversial energy tax, which adds 2.5 percent to the cost of electricity, natural gas, home heating oil, propane and firewood. The Nassau Council Chamber of Commerce, an organization representing more than 40 chambers in Nassau County, announced Tuesday the start of its most comprehensive media and advertising campaign encouraging Nassau residents to shop locally this holiday season. The program, dubbed "It Starts Here... Buy Locally," includes more than 130 radio spots, more than 50 TV spots, and print advertisements. more
Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, a Democrat from Merrick, is advising residents to protect themselves while holiday shopping. "Holiday shopping should be fun, not a time when you become a victim," Denenberg said. "By following a few simple precautions, you can protect yourself from thieves and carjackers." more
