Robert “Tom” Riordan of North Merrick, a former commander of North Bellmore American Legion Post No. 1749, Merrick American Legion Post No. 1282 and the Nassau County American Legion, who was known throughout the Bellmore-Merrick community for his volunteerism, died on April 19 after a long illness. Deputy Frank Milano’s friends remember him best for his uncanny impressions of characters from Italian-themed movies like “Good Fellas” and “The Godfather.” He was easygoing, loved making people laugh and didn’t let himself or others get bogged down by stressful situations, despite a career that was full of them.

On Nov. 7, my husband, Dr. Leonard (a.k.a. Len) Schreiber, lost his long and courageous battle against AML leukemia. His funeral service took place at Gutterman's Funeral Home in Rockville Centre, and his military burial was held at Wellwood Cemetery on Nov. 13. Since he was an Air Force veteran, taps was played and I was presented with the American flag that had draped his coffin.
