South Side couldn’t have picked a better time to put together its best offensive half of the season. The Cyclones exploded for 10 second-half goals — five apiece in the third and fourth quarters — to pull away for a 14-7 victory over Jericho in a Nassau Class B boys’ lacrosse first-round playoff game.

Despite trailing by five goals at halftime and being flagged for 14 penalties while enjoying just one man-up advantage, South Side made a spirited surge at Plainedge last Monday in a Conference B-II boys’ lacrosse game but ultimately suffered a 12-10 defeat.

Of the 11 freshmen on Ohio State’s women’s lacrosse team, none has made a bigger impact than Jackie Cifarelli. The speedy and shifty attack from Rockville Centre returned to the area last Thursday and had three goals and an assist in a 15-9 victory at Hofstra.

After watching from the sidelines as the University of Virginia kept its lacrosse season alive with a furious come-from-behind victory over Bucknell in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the sophomore attackman from Rockville Centre played a large role in the seventh-seeded Cavaliers’ unlikely run to the national title.
