The Oceanside resident heads the Susan Satriano Memorial Scholarship Foundation in honor of his wife who died from breast cancer in 2005. To honor her memory, Satriano has been awarding college scholarships to students who have had a parent afflicted with the disease. more

During Sunday mass this week, the parishioners of Oceanside’s First United Methodist Church mourned the sudden death of their beloved Pastor Pearlena Lobban. Though Lobban was only in her post for four years, it was clear from the emotional service how much she meant to the church community. Lobban died of congestive heart failure last Thursday at 68, stunning her flocks in both Oceanside and Island Park, as she held the same position at the Island Park United Methodist Church. more
Frasada Salon and Day Spa in Oceanside kicked off its month-long “Cut-a-thon” to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Children’s Health Initiative and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The effort began in September and will wind down Oct. 27. more
FBI agents entered the No Limits Auto Body on Austin Boulevard in Island Park Oct. 1. A person with direct knowledge of the case said the agents were at the shop in connection with the arrest that day of former NYPD officer Michael Perri, 32, of East Islip, on bribery charges. Peri retired from the NYPD in 2020. The FBI and New York Police Department jointly conducted an investigation into the case. more
Local hospitals are in the midst of dismissing staff who refuse to get a Covid-19 vaccine after a state mandate took effect in late September. Oceanside’s Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital has seen few of its staff dismissed and is now reviewing applications for religious and medical exemptions. more
