Former Councilman Anthony Santino was sworn into office on Jan. 5 as town supervisor at the Town of Hempstead inauguration. The ceremony was held at Hempstead Town Hall in the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion, where returning council members Bruce Blakeman, Erin King Sweeney and Edward Ambrosino were also sworn into office. Nasrin Ahmad resumed her position as town clerk and Donald Clavin as receiver of taxes.

A State Supreme Court ruled in mid-November that the Town of Hempstead must provide copies of the financial disclosure statements filed by former Town Supervisor Kate Murray and other town officials that were requested under the Freedom of Information Law. The FOIL was filed by the Madeline Singas election campaign, which received permission to view the financial disclosure documents, but not to copy them.

Sixteen-year-old Sean Flynn, of Bellmore, called all 263 contacts on his cell phone on the afternoon of June 26, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the Constitution guarantees the right to gay marriage.
He made the calls in rapid-fire succession. “Marriage equality is legal!” Flynn yelled into the phone. “Woohoo!” Then he moved to the next number, again and again, for two and a half hours.
He was ecstatic, he said.
