Cheating in school has been a problem across the country for generations, and Hewlett High School senior Shira Shamir decided that finding the root cause of academic dishonesty would make for an interesting social science research project. Shamir surveyed 202 of her fellow students, and got some interesting answers to her questions about how some of them justify cheating, whether on a test or copying a homework assignment.

Science researchers at South Side High School were busy this summer investigating a variety of problems ranging from health and medicine to producing green energy. Some even came up with environmentally friendly plastics that take less space in our landfills. While high school seniors are consumed with developing and submitting college essays and applications during the fall, Science Research students have the added task of submitting papers for the Siemens-Westinghouse Science Competition.
