As a taxpaying resident of the Village of Valley Stream, I request to be represented properly. This village voluntarily participated in the flood map program and should not accept these flood maps until all residents that are erroneously in the high-risk flood zone are removed. more

Republicans in the Nassau County Legislature modified their proposed redistricting map yesterday, backing off a plan to place a sliver of Merrick, including the home of Democratic Legislator Dave Denenberg, into the neighboring district of Legislator Joseph Scannell, a Democrat from Baldwin. The plan would have removed one of the two incumbents from the Legislature. more

Last week, many Valley Stream residents attended a public meeting that I, together with the members of the village board, hosted at Village Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to share information about the proposed new changes to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood maps that affect so many of us, and to give property owners the opportunity to learn what their current status is with regard to the new zones. more
When the Federal Emergency Management Agency unveiled revised flood maps for Valley Stream two weeks ago, about 1,600 families breathed a sigh of relief. No longer would they be saddled with high insurance premiums, or diminished property values. About 1,000 homeowners, however, weren’t so lucky. They remain in the newly drawn flood zone. more
