Salvatore Spinicchia wrote “95” on his left hand before the start of Monday’s Memorial Day parade. This year’s grand marshal wanted to remember that he was there to honor the 95 people from Valley Stream who have died serving their country. more

The village will send out a survey to residents in 2010 seeking input on how to improve Rockaway Avenue and cut down on storefront vacancies.
Infrastructure improvements on the way
A $2 million grant administered by the county will fund stream improvements in the village this year. Work at Hendrickson Park began in 2008 but was stopped when money ran out. With a new infusion of cash, work will continue on the stream at the north end of Valley Stream’s flagship park. more
