I have just read Mayor Ed Fare’s message in the Valley Stream Guide published by the Herald. The mayor has included a paragraph that, as a Gibson and School District 14 (Hewlett-Woodmere) resident and taxpayer, I resent.

The Taylor Law was extended even though it was ready to expire. It gave the Nassau County Police Department the ability to get huge wage and benefit increases when the county executive said he has no money. The county leaders say they don’t like it, but it enables them to blame the law for huge increases and keep the union happy while votes and Political Action Committee money roll in.

In aviation, winds traditionally dictate flight directions. Not anymore. The Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey have arbitrarily changed aviation policy at JFK. As a result, the two shortest runways (22L and 22R) bear a large majority of arrivals and departures.

Once again there was another fabulous Truck Day on Friday, May 3. The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect, truck horns were beeping, smiling faces were abundant and thanks to the efforts of many community members, Truck Day 2013 was a huge success.
