A 4-year-old boy who was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway near Baldwin on June 17 has died, according to New York State Police.
The child, identified as Christopher King-Morris, died June 24.
Police said the crash occurred at about 2:02 p.m. on the westbound Southern State Parkway, west of Exit 20N near Baldwin.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 31-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra westbound when she attempted to avoid an unknown black vehicle. She lost control of the car, which left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in a wooded area, police said.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Christopher King-Morris, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He died a week later.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation.
Police said the driver of the black vehicle did not stop after the crash. Investigators are working to identify the vehicle and its driver.
