Baldwin Civic Association to host inaugural Juneteenth Celebration on June 19

Posted

The Baldwin Civic Association will host its first Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 at the Baldwin Community Garden, marking the federal holiday with an evening of food, entertainment and community activities.

The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the garden, located at 1980 Grand Ave. Organizers said attendees can expect food trucks, vendors, games and live entertainment.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free — more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday has become a national observance celebrating freedom, Black history and culture.

The Baldwin Civic Association said the event is intended to bring residents together while recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and its place in American history.

Vendor opportunities remain available. Those seeking additional information may contact organizers at BCAJuneteenthCelebration@gmail.com.

The celebration is open to the public.
