Baldwin families connect with police at National Night Out

Posted

Families gathered on the grounds of Brookside Elementary School for an evening of activities, demonstrations and community outreach as Baldwin celebrated National Night Out.

The annual event brought residents together Aug. 4 with local law enforcement, first responders, elected officials and community organizations, offering families a chance to learn more about the people and groups serving the Baldwin community.

Children were able to get an up-close look at public-safety equipment, try on law enforcement gear and meet members of the Nassau County Police Department. The department’s mounted unit was also on hand, giving young attendees an opportunity to meet the horses and officers who patrol on horseback.

Throughout the school grounds, community organizations and local groups staffed tables offering information, activities, giveaways and treats. The family-friendly gathering also gave residents an opportunity to speak with local officials and representatives from organizations working throughout the area.

Town of Hempstead and other local officials joined the festivities and addressed those in attendance during the evening.

National Night Out is observed in communities across the country each summer, with events designed to strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement while encouraging neighborhood involvement and public-safety awareness.

In Baldwin, the gathering transformed the Brookside Elementary School grounds into a community celebration, bringing children, parents, police officers and local leaders together for an evening centered on connection, safety and family fun.
