Baldwin filmmaker Alain Martin will bring his documentary examining the U.S. occupation of Haiti to the big screen in Bellmore on Aug. 23.

“The Forgotten Occupation” will have its Long Island premiere at Bellmore Movies & The Showplace, with a screening scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is presented by Pameti Filmworks.

The documentary examines the United States’ occupation of Haiti, which began in 1915 and lasted until 1934, and explores its lasting effects on the country.

Organizers describe the screening as an effort to preserve awareness of a chapter of Haitian history that they say has largely receded from public memory. This summer marks 111 years since the occupation began.

The screening will take place Sunday, Aug. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bellmore Movies & The Showplace. Tickets are $20 and are available through Eventbrite.
