Baldwin Middle School recognized students in its Young Men of Excellence Club during the second annual “Moving Into Manhood” ceremony, celebrating their growth in leadership, character and mentorship.
Open to students in grades 6 through 8, the program focuses on building communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills while fostering confidence, responsibility and respect. Throughout the school year, participants engaged in mentorship, service and reflection activities designed to prepare them for future success.
The June 2 ceremony highlighted both academic and personal achievements, emphasizing values such as integrity, perseverance and compassion.
“This year’s Young Men of Excellence program reminded us that manhood is not defined by age, but by character, responsibility, and the choices our young men make each day,” Principal Erica Taylor said. “Watching these young men grow in confidence and embrace their potential has been one of the greatest joys of the school year.”
Guest speakers included district Superintendent Anthony Mignella, entrepreneur Kenny Ware, Stony Brook University professor and journalist Zachary R. Dowdy, and Baldwin alumnus and restaurateur Marcelo Erickson. Each encouraged students to remain committed to strong values and leadership.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of gold and blue neckties and tie pins to each participant, symbolizing professionalism, accountability and self-respect.
School officials said the program reinforces that excellence is defined by actions and character, as students prepare to lead both in school and in their communities.
