Three members of the Baldwin Union Free School District community were recognized this month as 2025–26 SCOPE Education Services “Shining Stars” award recipients, honoring their contributions to education, leadership and community service.

Instructional support teacher Michele Kourie received the Teacher Service Award, Baldwin High School PTSA President Mia Phillips earned the Community Service Award, and Director of Facilities Russ Randazzo was presented with the Administrator Service Award during the SCOPE Education Services 25th Annual School District Awards Dinner at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.

The annual event recognized 192 individuals from school districts across Long Island in categories including teacher, administrator, support staff, school board and community service.

“We are proud to see Ms. Michele Kourie, Ms. Mia Phillips, and Mr. Russ Randazzo among this year’s recipients of the SCOPE Education Services Awards,” Superintendent Anthony Mignella said in a statement. “All three individuals have had a positive impact on our schools and the greater Baldwin community, and this recognition is a testament to their outstanding contributions to the district’s overall success.”

Kourie, an instructional support teacher and instructional technology specialist for Baldwin’s five elementary schools, was recognized for helping educators integrate technology into classroom instruction and for leading professional development efforts throughout the district.

Phillips was honored for her years of volunteer leadership supporting Baldwin schools and student programs. She previously served as Booster Club president and Lenox PTA co-president, and currently serves as Baldwin High School PTSA president and a member of the PTA Council. District officials credited her with helping strengthen school spirit, fundraising efforts and parent advocacy initiatives.

Randazzo, a Baldwin High School graduate, was recognized for nearly 35 years of service overseeing district facilities, capital projects, emergency preparedness and building operations. District officials said his leadership was especially critical during emergencies such as Hurricane Sandy and the Covid-19 pandemic, while also highlighting his work modernizing district facilities systems through technology and AI-driven management tools.

The district said all three honorees exemplify dedication, leadership and service to the Baldwin school community.
