Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced last Wednesday that level three sex offender and Baldwin resident Charles Weaver, 55, pleaded guilty to multiple child pornography charges after police found numerous images and videos in his home.

Weaver, 55, admitted to three counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a plea that prompted Judge William O’Brien to promise to issue a sentence of 15 years on August 23.

According to Rice, during August and September of 2011, investigators from the Nassau DA’s Office discovered that Weaver was trading child pornography over the Internet. A search warrant was executed at Weaver’s home and resulted in the discovery of nearly 100 examples of child pornography and what officials called “at least 50 videos.” Weaver later admitted that he possessed images and videos depicting children between the ages of seven and 10.

Even before the incidents last week, Weaver was already registered as a level three sex offender. He previously served 10 years in prison following a 1990 conviction for a Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree. In another incident Weaver was convicted of

failing to register as a sex offender.

“Mr. Weaver is among the worst of the worst offenders against children, and the only way to prevent this predator from victimizing innocent children again is to lock him away,” Rice said last week. “I want to applaud the work of the investigators and prosecutors in my office for their tireless work in bringing this defendant to justice.”

Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Glicksman of the Technology Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case for the DA’s Office. Weaver is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.
