Students across Baldwin Union Free School District returned to classrooms last week for the 2026-27 school year, beginning a new chapter filled with learning, friendships and opportunities. From the youngest learners entering elementary school to high school students preparing for the next steps in their academic journeys, students arrived ready to reconnect with classmates, meet their teachers and settle into new routines.

The first day of school brought excitement throughout the district as students walked through the doors of Brookside, Plaza, Steele, Lenox and Meadow elementary schools, Baldwin Middle School and Baldwin High School. Campuses were filled with smiles, conversations and the energy that comes with the start of a new school year.

For many students, the first day marked a return to familiar classrooms and friendships. For others, it was an opportunity to begin new experiences, explore new interests and become part of a new school community. Teachers and staff members welcomed students back, helping them transition into the year ahead and creating a positive environment from the start.

Parents and families also joined in the excitement, sharing special moments as children arrived with backpacks in hand and looked ahead to another year of growth. At the district’s schools, the focus remained on creating supportive spaces where students can learn, build confidence and achieve their goals.

As the new school year gets underway, Baldwin schools are preparing for a year of academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community engagement. Students will have opportunities to challenge themselves, develop new skills and make memories with their peers.

The opening day served as a reminder of the importance of the school community and the many people who help make each school year successful. With teachers, administrators, staff members and families working together, Baldwin students began the year with enthusiasm and optimism for what lies ahead.
