A Baldwin woman was arrested on multiple grand larceny and fraud charges after Nassau County police alleged she forged documents to steal a West Hempstead home and rented out properties she did not own to unsuspecting families.

According to detectives with the Nassau County Police Department's Electronic Squad/Fraud and Forgery Section, Aurelia Soogea, 39, of Baldwin, allegedly targeted the home of a 75-year-old West Hempstead man between December 2025 and July 2026.

Police said Soogea fraudulently transferred the deed to the victim's Maple Street home into her own name by forging various documents.

Following an extensive investigation, detectives arrested Soogea without incident. During the arrest, police said she was found in possession of numerous pills believed to be oxycodone. No injuries were reported.

Investigators also determined that between July 8 and July 28, Soogea allegedly rented out multiple residential properties throughout Nassau County that she did not own.

Soogea is charged with second-degree grand larceny, two counts of third-degree grand larceny, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, first-degree scheme to defraud and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

She was arraigned July 31 in First District Court in Hempstead.
