Baldwin Middle School brought Disney magic to the stage in March with its production of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.,” drawing sold-out crowds for its Friday and Saturday performances.
From the opening number set in a “poor provincial town” to the show-stopping finale, students delivered a polished performance marked by strong vocals, choreography and detailed staging. The cast featured Summer James as Belle and Mason Daudier as the Beast, supported by an ensemble that helped bring the classic story to life.
Audiences were treated to well-known songs such as “Belle,” “Gaston,” “Be Our Guest,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” performed with energy and precision. Behind the scenes, student crew members managed lighting, sound, props and stage direction, contributing to the production’s overall success.
“With a cast of over 80 students, and an incredible team of directors, Beauty and the Beast Jr. truly became a labor of love,” said Tricia Wilder, the play’s director and a Plaza Elementary School teacher. “Our students rose to the occasion, delivering two sold-out performances that brought audiences to their feet each night.”
André Poprilo, the district’s director of fine and performing arts, said the production highlighted more than just performance skills.
“This production was a beautiful display of middle school students investing themselves into the performing arts,” Poprilo said. “They demonstrated personal accomplishments, teamwork perseverance, commitment, support of one another, follow-through, and accountability.”
Wilder also praised the cast for their “heart, courage, and unforgettable magic,” noting the teamwork and growth shown throughout the process.
With strong turnout and enthusiastic audiences, the production underscored the continued strength of Baldwin’s fine and performing arts program.
