As the days grow longer, the village begins to come alive once again. Soon our streets will be lined with blooming flowers, vibrant hanging baskets will adorn the downtown, and our parks and athletic fields will be filled with the energy and enthusiasm of our young athletes. Spring in our village is more than just a change in season; it is a renewal of community spirit, a time when neighbors reconnect and families gather to enjoy all that makes our community such a special place.
In the weeks and months ahead, the calendar will once again be filled with events that bring us together. One of the highlights is the return of the Vintage Car and Fire Truck Show, on Saturday, June 6, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at Parking Field 2. This beloved annual tradition showcases an impressive collection of classic cars and vintage fire trucks, offering residents of all ages the chance to step back in time and appreciate the craftsmanship and history behind these remarkable vehicles.
Classic car owners interested in participating are encouraged to sign up by emailing Susanna, at smarchiano@rvcny.us. It’s always a fantastic morning for families, enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys automotive history.
We are also excited about the return of Music on the Green, a favorite among residents that brings local musicians to the Village Green for evenings of live entertainment. At this free event, friends and neighbors gather to enjoy great music in a welcoming outdoor setting. Whether you bring a blanket or a lawn chair, pack a picnic or simply stop by to listen, Music on the Green captures the essence of summer in Rockville Centre.
As we look forward, it is also important to reflect on the moments that have already brought us together this year. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took part in and attended the St. Patrick’s Parade. Blessed with beautiful weather, the day was filled with community pride, smiling faces and a spirit of celebration. From the organizers and volunteers who worked behind the scenes to our first responders and participants who made the parade so memorable, this event was truly a success because of you. We look forward to celebrating together again next year.
Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents remains a top priority. I’m pleased to share that the village was recently awarded a $1.03 million grant secured by U.S. Rep. Laura Gillen to support our Police Department. This critical investment will allow us to install high-grade security cameras throughout the village, enhancing our ability to prevent crime, strengthen investigations and continue to provide the highest level of public safety. We are deeply appreciative of Congresswoman Gillen’s partnership and her support in securing these funds for our community.
April is also Autism Acceptance Month, an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion and understanding. I was proud to stand with the village board and members of RVC Blue Speaks to Light It Up Blue in recognition of this important initiative. After a recent briefing, we gathered outside Village Hall to show our support and to emphasize that Rockville Centre is a community where those of all abilities are valued, respected and supported. Together we continue to foster a culture of awareness and acceptance that strengthens our entire village.
As we embrace the season, I would also like to remind residents of the upcoming annual hydrant flushing conducted by our Water Department. This essential maintenance will take place from Wednesday, April 22, through Tuesday, April 28. The flushing schedule is organized by neighborhood, and we encourage residents to review the dates carefully at rvcny.gov. If you have any questions, the Water Department can be reached at (516) 678-9302.
Spring is a time of renewal, optimism and connection. It’s a season that reminds us of the importance of community and the shared experiences that bring us together. Whether you’re enjoying a local event, cheering on our young athletes or simply taking in the beauty of our blooming streets, I hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate all that makes Rockville Centre such an exceptional place to live.
On behalf of the board of trustees, I wish you and your family a wonderful spring season. We look forward to seeing you around the village.
Francis X. Murray is the mayor of Rockville Centre.
