EAST ROCKAWAY 26, FLORAL PARK 13

It’s on to Hofstra for little East Rockaway.

Quarterback Andrew Bashford hooked up twice with Mike Castellano on pass plays during a crucial go-ahead drive in the third quarter as the third-seeded Rocks knocked off visiting Floral Park, 26-13, in a Nassau Conference IV first-round playoff game on Saturday.

Castellano, who rushed for 70 yards on 20 carries, finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Anthony Tesoriero had a game-high 117 yards and two scores and
Nick Massari added 77 yards and a touchdown for an offense that ran for 277 yards.

East Rockaway’s defense held All-County running back Ronell Jones to 68 yards. Mikey Lores (three) and Jamie Parzych combined for five sacks, and Tom Dolan had six tackles.

East Rockaway will take on Roosevelt at Hofstra next Saturday.

HEWLETT 17, SEWANHAKA 0

Three takeaways on defense and two on special teams allowed Hewlett to avenge a regular-season loss to Sewanhaka for a second straight year to advance to the Nassau Conference III semifinals at Hofstra.

Mark Rizzo recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff to set up a 22-yard Ross Kleinrock field goal that held up as the winning score for the visiting Bulldogs in a 17-0 victory on Saturday. Quarterback Alex Kahn had a 1-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, Rizzo added a 38-yard touchdown run and an interception in the second half, and Jon Alfieri led a stellar defensive effort with nine tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Hewlett, which lost 20-14 to the Indians at home Oct. 16, meets cross-town rival Lawrence in the semis on Friday.

LAWRENCE 49, GLEN COVE 7

Defending Nassau Conference III champion Lawrence got three rushing touchdowns from Tyler Fredericks and two scores from Eddie Robinson in a convincing 49-7 first-round playoff win at home over Glen Cove.
