The Environmental Rotaract of Nassau County is inviting concerned residents, families and environmental enthusiasts to attend its Brookside Preserve Beautification Day on July 11, at 9 a.m.
The preserve, located between Freeport and Baldwin, is a freshwater wetland greenspace under the jurisdiction of Nassau County. The preserve covers over 20 acres of woodlands and wetlands, but has suffered severe deterioration due to years of human abuse and neglect.
In response to the preserve’s subpar state, the Environmental Rotaract will be beginning what they described as its “most ambitious project” to construct a new, clean entrance on Brookside Avenue.
All who are interested in joining the beatification effort on Saturday are asked to meet at that entrance. Please check the Environmental Rotaract of Nassau County’s website, Facebook or Instagram pages for future updates.
