Siela A. Bynoe, the Democratic nominee for New York State Senate’s Sixth District, which includes Baldwin, had a front-row seat at the Democratic National Convention held from Aug. 19 to 22. The event was marked by Vice President Kamala Harris’s nomination as the Democratic Presidential candidate.

Bynoe, who represents Nassau County’s Second Legislative District, was part of the New York delegation that observed President Joe Biden’s transition of the nomination to Harris. The convention featured Harris’s acceptance speech as the first Black and South Asian woman to be nominated for President by a major party, and addresses by figures such as First Lady Michelle Obama, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Oprah Winfrey.

Also in attendance was Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Governor Kathy Hochul, State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, former Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams, and Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages.

“Being at the United Center was witnessing history firsthand, and I left the convention with a renewed sense of joy and optimism,” Bynoe stated in a news release. “As Election Day approaches, we are back on the campaign trail with a clear focus on our mission to secure victory and forge a path towards a more prosperous and unified America where diversity is celebrated and freedom is upheld. We are energized and ready to continue the work ahead!”
