Baldwin youth on par and on course

Posted

Two Baldwin families, the Boyles and Lambrous, believe the family that plays together stays together—their game of choice? Golf. The Boyle and Lambrou kids have both been out on Long Island golf courses for almost their entire lives.

At only 10, Liam Boyle is already entering his third year of competitive golf.  He finished 30th in the U.S. Kids Golf European Championship and played at the Metropolitan PGA. The St. Raymond’s fifth grader first set foot on a golf course at the age of five, when he began playing with his family in Woodmere and Lido Beach.

Liam, however, isn’t the only Boyle who spends time on the links — his 8-year-old sister, Emma, a 4th grader at St. Raymond’s, has also competed in US Kids competitions and his 14-year-old sister Katherine, a Sacred Heart student, competed in the Met PGA and US Kids competitions.

Much like the Boyles, Chris and Taylor Lambrou are members of another golfing family. Now a freshman at Holy Trinity High School, Chris first teed off when he was only four. This year Chris made the Holy Trinity High School team and won MVP and all-league honors. His performance in the CHSAA finals at Eisenhower Park’s Red Course qualified him for entry into the State Championships competition in Poughkeepsie.

Chris’ 16-year-old sister, Taylor, is a junior at Holy Trinity and has also been golfing for years.  Beginning on the course at age six, Taylor plays for her school’s team, where she won all-league honors and was named most valuable player. She made the CHSAA finals three times and finished fourth in the state championships twice. Outside of school, Taylor played the Tournament of Champions at Glen Oaks, and won a tournament at the Woodmere Country Club. She also played at the Met Junior PGA summer tournaments last year. She plans to continue golfing in college, and looks forward to playing with her brother in summer tournaments.

The Lambrou and the Boyle kids may be young, but they’re already experienced when it comes to golfing. Golf enthusiasts from Baldwin should be cheering on these young athletes for years to come.
