Yash Shah of Baldwin arrested for elder scam
Nassau County police announced the arrest of Yash J. Shah, 25, of Baldwin in connection with an elder scam incident that occurred on June 6, 2023, in North New Hyde Park, police said.
According to detectives, a 73-year-old male victim received a notification on his computer indicating that his device had been compromised. He was instructed to contact a provided number to safeguard his assets. The victim spoke with an individual claiming to represent the Federal Trade Commission, who directed him to purchase six gold bars totaling approximately $390,000 from JM Bullion. The victim complied, and an unidentified male arrived at his residence in an unknown vehicle to collect the gold bars.
Shah faces charges of Grand Larceny and was arraigned on July 16, at First District Court located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
