The Clear Stream Avenue and Howell Road School PTAs recently hosted their annual Breakfast with Santa events for children and parents. Clear Stream's breakfast was on Dec. 10, and Howell Road held its event on Dec. 17. more

The village of Valley Stream held its annual tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 10 outside of Village Hall. There was a musical performance from Central High School Tri-M honor society students, treats and a chance for children to send their letters to Santa. more
The Central/Memorial PTSA hosted its annual holiday boutique and craft fair last Saturday afternoon. There were dozens of vendors who took up two gymnasiums at Central High School. The sellers had many handmade holiday gifts and treats. Money raised from the event will go toward scholarships for graduating seniors and other PTSA-sponsored events. more
Baldwin American Legion Post 246 held its annual Law and Order Night at their headquarters on Grand Ave. over the weekend. The event is held to show appreciation for the unsung, and frequently unpaid, people who make our communities livable: law officers, firefighters, teachers and other community members who give unselfishly of themselves on a daily basis. Post 246 recognized members of the Baldwin Fire Department, the Nassau County Police Department, the New York State Police and the United States Coast Guard at this year’s celebration. more
The Valley Stream Recreation Department hosted it annual costume contest on Oct. 22 at Hendrickson Park. It was open to children of all ages. Judging was on the scariest, funniest and best storybook character costumes. more
5K race in Valley Stream [Photo gallery]
A Black Tie 5K race (though normal running attire was recommended) was held at Valley Stream’s Hendrickson Park last Saturday morning hosted by MPower, the charitable division of Morrison Management Specialists. Money was raised for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. more

The Valley Stream Green Hornets youth football league kicked off its 2011 season with a pep rally at Firemen's Field on Sept. 9. Players, parents and and coaches heard opening remarks from league President Sharon Daly and saw a performance by the varsity cheerleaders. more
