A winter wonderland at Eisenhower Park

Posted

Everyone in Nassau County knows Eisenhower Park — and knows the 930-acre oasis well. It is one of the largest public spaces in the New York metropolitan area, larger, in fact, than Central Park. Offering a full range of athletic and family activities, there’s something for everyone in Eisenhower.

Although more likely that people hit the trails or enjoy the open field space in warmer spring or summer months, the park boasts natural beauty that is not to be ignored during the wintertime. Whether you’re heading indoors for a lap or two at the Aquatic Center, or taking a stroll around the lake near the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre — no matter the weather, the park still boasts attractions.

The park was acquired by Nassau County during the Great Depression, as the property’s owners were unable to pay taxes on the land. It was named the Nassau County Park at Salisbury in 1944, and officially dedicated in 1949. 40 years later, it was renamed after President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

World class entertainment has graced the park’s stage during the summertime, excited additions popped up all last year, and now there’s a brand new eatery and catering hall, The Lannin, in the center of the park’s attractions.

Open every day through dusk, unless otherwise noted, Eisenhower is Nassau County’s gem. For more, visit NassauCountyNY.gov/2797/Eisenhower-Park.
