East Meadow Board of Education to meet twice in December

The East Meadow Board of Education has scheduled two meetings for the month of December. The school board meets for a work session on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. On Dec. 16, the school board meets for a Communications session at 8 p.m. A curriculum presentation begins at 7:30 p.m., featuring musical selections from the Music Department. 

All meetings are held at the Leon J. Campo Salisbury Center, located at 718 The Plain Road in Salisbury. 

Twelve days of service

The Bowling Green K-Kids gave thanks for all that they have by giving back to their community through a variety of service projects. Engaging in a 12-day marathon of service, the K-Kids ran a school-wide food drive, supplied thanksgiving meals for eight needy Bowling Green families, donated 14 cartons of food to the East Meadow Kiwanis Club, helped Kiwanis sort thousands of donated food items into 120 food baskets for needy East Meadow families and helped the EMHS Key Club decorate for and serve approximately 350 local senior citizens a hot thanksgiving meal.

A top scholar

Michelle D’Souza of East Meadow is among just 11 incoming students at The University of Scranton awarded a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship. D’Souza, a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, was a member of the National Honor Society and the science, math, French and music honor societies. She held several leadership roles, including president of the Speech and Debate club, the Key Club, RISK and the French club. 

She volunteered for programs including Operation Shoebox and Pennies for Patients. A member of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program at Scranton, D’Souza is majoring in neuroscience. She is the daughter of Desmond D’Souza and Norma Lobo D’Souza.
