East Meadow High School’s Service Learning class recently took second place in the Goodwill/Long Island Works “Best Foot Forward” sneaker/shoe drive.

Under the direction of Danielle Casamassina, over 1,000 pounds of footwear was collected. In addition, students Jimmy Egan and Alexis Banschbach won a “Most Creative Video” trophy for their YouTube video supporting the collection drive. The students were honored at a celebration held at Molloy College in Farmingdale.

Special guests at the event included New York State Regent Roger Tilles and Director of the Empire State STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Learning Network Margaret Ashida.
