Two cases are scheduling during the next Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals public hearing on Dec. 10 regarding potential East Meadow businesses.
A proposed pawn shop by Elite Pawnbrokers, Inc., on 503 Newbridge Road, between Falcon Street and Kenmore Street, is currently on the agenda.
Since a pawn shop is not a permitted use of the business zone, spokeswoman Susie Trenkle-Pokalsky said it must be granted a special exception by the board. “Any pawn shop that wanted to go into business in that zone would have to do the same exact thing,” said Trenkle-Pokalsky, adding that the proposed shop would be about 1,100 square feet.
A second item scheduled for Wednesday’s meeting is a proposed Taco Bell on 1939 Hempstead Turnpike, where a Zorn’s restaurant used to be. The request also calls for special exceptions, including a drive-thru window, a variance for off-street parking, a rear yard dumpster and an illuminated sign.
Both cases will be called during the 2 p.m. session. The hearing will take place at Town Hall on 1 Washington St. in Hempstead.
