Hit-and-run on Wantagh Parkway in East Meadow

Posted

On Dec. 20 at 1:45 p.m., a state trooper was dispatched to a two-car hit-and-run accident with an injury on the southbound side of the Wantagh State Parkway in East Meadow, near Hempstead Turnpike.

According to state troopers, a white Toyota attempted to illegally pass a blue Chevrolet by driving onto the unpaved shoulder at Hempstead Turnpike. As the Toyota passed the Chevrolet he sideswiped the vehicle, causing the Chevrolet to lose control and strike a tree, police said.

The operator of the Chevrolet sustained a knee injury and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, officials said, and the Toyota fled the scene. Police said the operator of the Toyota was later apprehended by officers in Bellmore.

State police said Eddy Napoleon, 20, of North Baldwin, was subsequently charged with Reckless Endangerment, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, Reckless Driving and traffic violations.  His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 27 in First District Court, Hempstead.
