Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Art has been recognized as an Exemplary School from the Arts Schools Network for 2026 to 2031.

The recognition is presented to art schools across the country that perform excellent work in the fields of art, theatre and the like.

LIHSA is dedicated to culminating artistic excellence and academic achievement through an engaging educational environment that supports creativity, innovation and student growth.

LIHSA Principal, Lindsay Rogan, said that the school is thankful to all of their students and staff for working hard to win the recognition. “The entire faculty worked together to submit this lengthy document with evidence of student growth, of our vision, our mission, our values,” Rogan said.

ASN, the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools, awards Exemplary School Designations to members that follow A Guide to Assessing Your Arts School in strategically evaluating their school’s purpose, operations, and educational programs. The guide is a collaborative effort between ASN and the Accrediting Commission for Community and Pre-Collegiate Art School.

“We offer guidance, inspiration and incentives to art school leaders who strive for excellence in their schools,” said Nicole Michel, managing director for ASN. “When they demonstrate outstanding efforts towards this goal, as they do following ‘A Guide to Assessing Your Arts School,’ we recognize and reward their achievements with this designation.”

LIHSA students engage in various arts programming that encourages collaboration, creative expression and interdisciplinary learning in areas including visual arts, music theatre, dance, and media arts. Through performance opportunities, exhibitions, community partnerships, and mentorship from experienced educators and artists, LIHSA builds confident, imaginative, and socially engaged learners prepared to thrive in higher education, professional artistic pursuits and an evolving global community.

“This recognition is a meaningful reflection of the culture of creativity, passion and possibility that defines Long Island High School of the Arts. LIHSA is a community where students are empowered to discover their voice, refine their talent and grow into confident artists and individuals,” said Larry Leaven, Nassau BOCES district superintendent. “We are incredibly proud of Principal Lindsay Rogan, the faculty, staff, students and alumni whose dedication and vision continue to create transformative opportunities for young people through the power of the arts.”

When asked if LIHSA will be aiming for more recognition or awards in the future, Rogan said, “maybe in the next few years, but for right now, this national distinction is really incredible and really helps to remind our community that students in high school have access to incredible arts education without having to leave Long Island.”

ASN will honor the school at the awards ceremony during the ASN 2026 Annual conference on October 20 to 22, 2026, in San Diego, California.
