Stuart Rabinowitz, the board chairman of Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, will step down later this month. He was appointed to the position in June of last year by Gov. Kathy Hochul, after New York state officials assumed leadership of the public hospital and its presiding body, Nassau Health Care Corporation.

Rabinowitz, 80, is the former president of Hofstra University. His resignation at NUMC is effective March 15.

"Stu Rabinowitz stepped up when Nassau University Medical Center desperately needed steady, serious leadership,” Hochul said in a statement shared with the Herald. "His focus on accountability and fiscal management has helped put this critical safety-net hospital on the road to recovery, and I thank him for his dedicated service to the Long Island region."

There is no announcement for a replacement.
