Off to Lincoln Center

W.T. Clarke High School’s Emerald String Quartet has once again been selected to perform in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Musicians Program. The group was selected by audition from a group of hundreds of students throughout the northeast.

The students will receive coaching sessions from world-class musicians this spring. Their involvement in the program will conclude with a performance at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in April. This year’s honor represents an unprecedented third-time selection for this group of fine musicians. Congratulations to Daniel Wang (violin), Jordi Lotito (violin), Joseph Palazzolo (viola) and Elisa Change (cello). The ensemble is taught by orchestra director Adrianna Donovan.

Kids helping kids

Woodland seventh- and eighth-graders will be participating in the St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon. Woodland has raised money through this volunteer-based fundraising program for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital for the past seven years. Students who participate will improve math and comprehension skills, solve age-appropriate math problems and understand the importance of helping others. This all equals help for St. Jude’s patients battling cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

Certified

Twenty-three students from East Meadow High School’s Business Department took the Microsoft Specialist Exam at the Leon J. Campo Center earlier this month. The students, who are in the college-level SCALE Computer Literacy and Multimedia IV class, are now certified users of Microsoft Office, specializing in Word, Excel and Power Point.
