The East Meadow Public Library is filling its July calendar with entertainment-focused programs, including a live radio interview with a comic book creator, a murder mystery escape room for teens and a stand-up comedy show featuring Long Island performers.
Comic book writer Mark Torres will discuss his sci-fi series Designated during a live recording of It Came From the Radio on Wednesday, July 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the East Meadow Public Library's Makerspace Rooms A and B. The syndicated entertainment radio show, which airs Sundays at 6 p.m. on WGBB 95.9 FM and 1240 AM, spotlights independent writers, artists and filmmakers and hosts a monthly live audience event at the library.
During the program, Torres will discuss the inspiration behind Designated, a 1990s-set comic series about a group of young people who gain extraordinary powers after alien star fragments are implanted in them, drawing them into an intergalactic conflict. He will also talk about the comic creation process, upcoming storylines and answer audience questions. The free program is open to adults.
Teens who enjoy puzzles, teamwork and suspense will have the chance to become detectives during the library's Murder Mystery Escape Room on July 20. Presented by Creatology, the interactive program challenges participants to work together to solve a fictional crime before time runs out.
The event will be offered in two separate sessions, beginning at 6 and 7 p.m., and participants are asked to register for only one. Teams will search for clues, decipher puzzles and piece together evidence to identify the culprit. Designed for students in grades 6 through 12, the program combines problem-solving with storytelling in a fast-paced environment. Registration is required and space is limited.
Adults can enjoy an afternoon of stand-up comedy when Long Island comedian Mark Brier brings his "Laughs at the Library" program to East Meadow on July 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room.
Brier, an East Meadow native, has been recognized as Best Comic on Long Island in Bethpage Federal Credit Union's Best of Long Island competition. He will be joined by a lineup of fellow Long Island comedians for an afternoon of live entertainment. The program offers residents an opportunity to enjoy professional comedy close to home in a relaxed community setting. The event is open to adults and is part of the library's ongoing effort to provide a wide range of cultural and recreational programming for local residents.
