Posted

The remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole pounded the East Coast on Thursday and Friday. While Long Island was spared the brunt of the torrential rains and winds, areas like East Meadow and Salisbury still encountered heavy downpours and gusty winds in the early morning hours of Friday.

Flooding was prevalent throughout the community, especially on Hempstead Turnpike as commuters made their way to work during rush hour. There were some downed trees and branches as well.

Light showers were expected to continue until about 1 p.m. on Friday. Then forecasters said it is expected to stay mostly cloudy throughout the day and then gradually clear in the evening, with the temperatures dropping to a low of 51 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, the weekend forecast calls for sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures in the mid-60s.
