Following the success of its first "Soccer in the Park" watch party in June, The Island FC and Nassau County hosted another public viewing event at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park on July 1, drawing thousands of fans together to cheer on the United States Men's National Team during its FIFA World Cup 2026 run.
More than 6,700 soccer fans attended the inaugural event, which brought together families, youth soccer players and supporters from across Long Island to watch the U.S. defeat Australia. The free outdoor watch party featured two large screens, giveaways, food and beverages, merchandise and other family-friendly activities.
The large turnout underscored the growing popularity of soccer on Long Island and prompted organizers to continue the series with additional watch parties as the U.S. advanced through the tournament.
"This first event showed exactly what we've known all along, that Long Island is ready to rally around this game in a big way," Travis Lamprecht, president of business operations for The Island FC, said in a release. "To see more than 6,700 people come together was special, and it reinforced how strong the soccer community is here. We're excited to keep building these moments with our fans and partners across Nassau County."
Fans spread blankets and lawn chairs across the theater lawn as they watched the match, creating a festival-like atmosphere. Throughout the evening, supporters cheered goals and key plays while children participated in activities surrounding the venue.
During the July 1 match, the U.S. opened the scoring on goals by Folarin Balogun, then held on through a physical second half after Balogun was sent off with a red card. Despite playing a man down, the U.S. defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2-0, following another goal by Malik Tillman, in the Round of 32 knockout game, securing a spot in the Round of 16.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said the event highlighted both community pride and the excitement surrounding international soccer.
"The energy and turnout at our first event were outstanding," Blakeman said. "As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, this is a great opportunity for Nassau County residents to come together, support Team USA, and experience the excitement of the World Cup right here in Eisenhower Park, the centerpiece of our county parks system. We're proud to partner with The Island FC once again to welcome families and fans from across the region for another special evening."
The gathering also reflected Long Island's expanding role in the sport ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with local organizations continuing to promote soccer through community events and youth engagement. The Island FC, an official MLS NEXT Pro club, plans to launch its professional team in 2027 as part of its effort to create a pathway from youth soccer to the professional level.
The U.S. fell to Belgium, 4-1, in a Round of 16 knockout game on July 6, ending its run in the 2026 World Cup.
