Apartment fire displaces residents in East Meadow; many units sustain significant damage

First responders extinguished a fire on Feb. 7, around 11:35 p.m. in East Meadow, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

According to detectives, First Precinct Police Officers responded to 911 calls for a two-story multiple dwelling fire at 425 Newbridge Road. Upon arrival, officers observed heavy smoke and began evacuating surrounding apartments. The North Bellmore Fire Department and neighboring fire departments responded to extinguish the flames.

Six residents suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. The Nassau County Fire Marshal, the Arson Bomb Squad and the Town of Hempstead Department of Buildings responded to the scene.

Multiple apartments sustained significant damage. Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced residents.

An investigation remains ongoing.
