The East Rockaway Union Free School District sent out a statement to families on April 27 announcing it will not move forward with its proposed district realignment plan, often referred to as the Princeton Plan.
In the letter, Superintendent James DeTommaso said the decision came after reviewing feedback from residents through emails, questions and conversations.
District officials noted that concerns about neighborhood factors and long-standing traditions played a major role, saying those elements could not be fully addressed in the proposed model.
DeTommaso thanked staff, teachers and community members for their input, calling it “instrumental” in the final decision.
The district said it remains committed to providing high-quality education and will continue to explore ways to best meet the needs of its students moving forward.
