Two people were injured and a driver was arrested following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Merrick Road in Lynbrook on Sept. 18, according to Lynbrook Fire Department spokesman Steve Grogan.

Lynbrook police and firefighters responded to the crash at approximately 9:40 p.m.

“Lynbrook firefighters under the command of First Assistant Chief Peter Festa responded to a reported accident and fire with occupants trapped. There was also information that a vehicle had exploded,” Grogan said.

However, when Festa and Third Assistant Chief Stephen Cribbin arrived, they found no fire, explosion or trapped occupants. Lynbrook police were already at the scene.

One vehicle came to rest on Atlantic Avenue near Merrick Road, while the second was approximately 100 yards down Merrick Road, across from Forest Avenue.

The female driver of the first vehicle and her passenger were transported to a hospital by Northwell ambulances. The male driver of the second vehicle was arrested by Lynbrook police on an alleged DWI charge, according to Grogan.

Members of the department’s Truck, Engine and Tally-Ho companies responded to the scene, along with two Northwell ambulances. Firefighters remained at the scene until 10:39 p.m., while fire chiefs stayed until 11:18 p.m.
