Lynbrook Summer Playground campers celebrate Pirate Day with festive fun

Pirate hats, eyepatches and treasure maps were on full display as children in the Lynbrook School District’s Summer Playground program celebrated Pirate Day on July 17 with a day of themed games, crafts and activities at Marion Street Elementary School and North Middle School.

The Summer Playground program, open to Lynbrook Schools students and Village of Lynbrook children entering kindergarten through eighth grade, offers a variety of recreational and enrichment activities throughout the summer. Pirate Day gave campers the chance to embrace their imaginations by dressing in pirate-themed costumes, creating crafts and participating in games with friends.

Older student volunteers helped lead the day’s activities, working alongside younger campers and creating opportunities for mentorship and teamwork across grade levels.

One of the day’s highlights was a pair of pirate parades through the schools. Campers proudly marched in their pirate attire while first- and second-grade students lined the hallways, cheering them on with applause and enthusiastic “ahoys.” The festive atmosphere brought smiles to students and staff alike and showcased the sense of community that has become a hallmark of the district’s summer program.

The annual Summer Playground program provides children with a fun, safe and engaging environment during the summer months, combining recreation with themed events that encourage creativity, friendship and school spirit before the start of the new academic year.
