The Sewanhaka Central High School District has appointed Antonio Santana as principal and John Squillace as assistant principal of Elmont Memorial High School.
Santana joins Elmont Memorial with more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership. Most recently, he served as superintendent of the South Country Central School District, where he led a K-12 instructional improvement agenda focused on strengthening curriculum alignment, rigorous coursework and dual-enrollment opportunities.
His previous experience includes serving as a high school principal, middle school principal and junior high school assistant principal. Santana earned a bachelor’s degree in communication expanding academic supports, increasing assessment participation and improving access to
from Cornell University and a master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Touro College. He also holds New York state certification as a school district administrator and supervisor.
Squillace is a familiar presence at Elmont Memorial, having served the school community for more than two decades. He joined the district in 2003 as a mathematics teacher and has since held several instructional and leadership positions, including interim mathematics chairperson, summer enrichment supervisor, interim assistant principal and dean of students.
Squillace has also coached softball, volleyball and cheerleading. He is a member of the Schoolwide Safety Team, has overseen attendance initiatives for 10th- and 12th-grade students and regularly supports student mediation efforts.
Squillace earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from LIU Post and a master’s degree in administration and technology from Adelphi University. He also holds a School Building Leader certification.
