Cedarhurst-based Rock and Wrap It Up! an anti-poverty think tank presented its Lena and Joseph Mandelbaum Humanitarian Award to Hewlett Harbor residents Beth and Lenny Fliegal at a dinner celebration at Temple Avodah in Oceanside on May 2.
The award is named for the parents of Rock and Wrap It Up! founder Syd Mandelbaum, both of whom were Holocaust survivors. Jenna Rose provided the musical entertainment.
Rock and Wrap It Up! is involved in a variety of activities ranging from collecting unused food and other items from sporting events and concerts that are donated to organizations that help people in need to creating the Whole Earth curriculum that teaches economics and environmental science from elementary to high school.
