Flooding was commonplace in low-lying areas of the Five Towns such as Seaview Avenue in the Lawrence.
Though Hurricane Irene was downgraded from a category 2 to a category 1 hurricane, it struck the Five Towns with strong winds and torrential rain that produced flooding, knocked down trees, caused homeowners and businesses to lose power, while wreaking havoc with train service, airport departures and arrivals, and car travel.
