The superlatives of the class of 2026 were just announced, continuing a longstanding tradition that has been going on since 2018. This year, the superlatives were announced at an Oscar-themed ceremony. Students adorned formal attire as the dress code required, to make the event feel like a real Oscars ceremony.
The event started at 5:00 and lasted until 8:00. At around 6:30, dinner was served, and at around 7:00, the electives were announced. Attendees had the opportunity to chat with their peers and enjoy the food that was served. The event took place in the cafeteria, which was decorated elegantly, with classy jazz music serving as a background.
Students voted for week’s prior on who would be the superlatives of the class. Some categories featured in the voting list were “Best Hair,” “Best Artist,” and “Most Likely to Host a Podcast.” On the day of the event, over 50 awards were handed out to the winners of these categories. The team behind the event ensured that all students had a chance to take home a title.
“It was a great night seeing everyone there since this is our last year in the same school together,” said 12th-grader Travis Lazo. “I enjoyed the chats and the freestyle at the end. To keep it short, it was a great night, and I don’t regret going. I went out last minute.”
The success of this ceremony can be greatly attributed to the hard work of the senior student government and the new supervisor, Mrs. Lohwasser. They spent weeks planning and organizing this event so that everything could run smoothly. Their efforts led to an improvement in quality, as one student noted that previous superlatives “looked a lot less expensive.”
The superlatives are an event where the senior student body can come together and create memories. It allows students who are not usually involved a chance to shine. Over time, more and more students have been included not only in the award ceremony but also in the production.
In the early stages of this event, around only 10–15 awards were handed out. That number has grown significantly over the years, and this year’s superlatives featured over 50 awards.
The ceremony took place in the school’s cafeteria. Tables with black tablecloths were placed throughout the room, with a long table featuring a variety of foods for students to enjoy. A large selection of drinks accompanied the dishes. Near the end, a long Lawrence-themed cake was cut and served to the guests.
During the announcements, students cheered each other on for each category won. Some absurd awards, such as “Class Clown” and “Most Chronically Online,” were given out. Students broke out in laughter and playfully teased each other.
In the end, the superlatives have brought the Class of 2026 together, creating an unforgettable experience. As the years pass, the superlatives will only grow stronger at Lawrence High School.
