The Freeport Fire Department was dispatched to an attached garage fire at 89 Raynor Street in Freeport at 10:35 a.m. on May 5. Upon arrival, the fire had extended to the two-story private home.

Under command of Chief Thomas Stevens, the Freeport Fire Department, assisted by the Merrick and Roosevelt fire departments, brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. There were approximately 30 firefighters on the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but the Nassau County Fire Department initially reported six adults and four children being displaced by the incident. The American Red Cross has since told the Herald that the number of impacted individuals has grown to ten adults for a total of 14 residents.

The American Red Cross has been contacted for assistance, according to Nassau County Deputy County Fire Coordinator Captain Kevin Lang, and has provided financial assistance to help victims address immediate concerns how they see best.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal Fire Investigators and the Nassau County Police Department Arson and Bomb Squad Detectives.
