At about 3:14 p.m. on May 29, the Freeport Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a two-story private house on West Seaman Avenue near North Ocean Avenue in Freeport. No one was injured or displaced by the fire.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Hempstead, Baldwin, Merrick and Roosevelt fire departments. A total of 40 firefighters were at the scene and brought the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes.
All firefighting operations were under the command of Chief Michael Gordon of the Freeport Fire Department.
The Village of Freeport Building Department has been notified to respond and assess damage to the structure, which was believed to be under construction. Investigators from the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office and detectives from Nassau County's Police Department and its Arson/Bomb Squad are assisting in determining the origin and cause of the fire.
